Author Talks and Workshops

I've delivered workshops at The Edinburgh International Book Fair, London's Pop-Up festival, the Hampstead and Highgate Literary Festival and Brighton's Jubilee Library, as well as many secondary schools throughout the UK.

I am also the Patron of Reading for Kincorth Academy in Aberdeen, Scotland.

What I Do

I specialise in writing workshops, helping KS3 and KS4 students develop their imaginations, and bring their writing to life by using precise and exciting language choices. I am a former teacher, with experience in both English and drama. I use tools such as role-play, hot-seating and visualisation technques to help students develop vivid fictional settings, characters and conflicts.

Workshops can be geared to a school's needs. Are you interested in engaging "reluctant" writers and readers? Do you want to widen and enhance the range of creative experiences for your students? Do you hope to develop your students' confidence and self-expression? Do you want focussed work on a core exam piece?

I love helping students explore new worlds and experiences through creative writing, but I'm also happy to give entertaining talks to whole-class assemblies or other larger groups. I can focus these talks on my own life and career, or focus on the characters and contexts of my books.

A few comments:

"Thanks for making our World Book Day so special this year. The students were really enthused by your talk – we have never sold so many books at an event. The two workshops were also brilliant with the students involved really buzzing afterwards. A great day all round!"

"I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Jane as she was very fun and animated and had a great sense of humour! I could really see her love and passion for books and reading!"
"I found working with a real author really helpful because it helped me write nore creatively and she helped me thin of seful ways to writer my description. She also helped me to open up my mind."
